Niendorf harbor offers a truly special experience with its maritime and idyllic flair. Here, yachts rock gently in the wind, and waves lap against the sides of the boats. Seagulls cry, and the scent of fish and seaweed fills the air. Fishermen lay out their nets to dry, and you can buy freshly caught fish straight from the cutters.

Niendorf harbor was built in 1920. Before that, fishermen brought their boats to the harbor of Travemünde whenever there was a storm warning, while smaller boats were pulled up onto the beach. However, they were by no means always safe there.

The fishermen sold their catch on the beach and laid out their nets to dry, which caused an unpleasant odor, especially during the summer.Fearing a decline in visitor numbers, the local municipality decided to build a harbor for the fishermen. Today, you can watch the bustling activity of the fishermen, breathe in the salty sea breeze, and perhaps feel a touch of wanderlust. As a guest boater with your sailing or motor yacht, you have several options for visiting Timmendorfer Strand and Niendorf. In Niendorf, at the mouth of the little river Aalbek, you can moor your charter yacht or own boat at the docks of the sailing club, the yacht club, the Evers shipyard, or directly in the municipal harbor

The Hanseatic League is undisputedly a significant chapter in German and European history and remains present in the minds of many people today. Half a millennium passed from its rise as a trading power to its fall.

Visitors to the museum experience the world and life during the era of the Hanseatic League, witnessing oaths, diplomatic negotiations, piracy, trade boycotts, wars, and the suffering during one of the great plague epidemics.

Launched in 1911 as one of the legendary 'Flying P-Liners'. Sailed around the world until 1957. Rounded Cape Horn 39 times. Today, the four-masted barque Passat is Travemünde's landmark, a museum ship, and a popular event venue.

It is well worth a visit! Since 2016, a new exhibition on board tells the story of life and work on the Passat in a very personal way: following the diary entries of Herbert Scheuffler, who signed on in 1932 at the age of 15, the exhibition traces the life of a cabin boy on a long voyage.
